Game Thread #140: A’s vs. White Sox

Rubber match!

The Oakland A’s and Chicago White Sox split the first two games of their series at the Coliseum, and on Thursday they’ll meet up one last time for the rubber match.

Having snapped their four-game losing streak last night, the A’s will look to build on that victory with Sean Manaea on the mound. The lefty slumped in August but bounced back in his first September appearance last week, shutting down the Blue Jays for seven innings and registering a season-high in velocity.

The White Sox go with Reynaldo Lopez, who has mostly worked out of the bullpen this year. Lopez has made five starts, each ranging between 3-5 innings apiece, totaling a 3.32 ERA. One of those starts came against the A’s in mid-August, in the Bassitt Injury game, and Lopez tossed five scoreless frames.

Speaking of Chris Bassitt, who’s recovering from facial surgery after being hit by a line drive, the right-hander has resumed throwing. He did a flat-ground session today, and is feeling good and will throw off a bullpen mound on Saturday.
