The Oakland A’s are down but not out. They just got swept by the Toronto Blue Jays, and they’ve got 25 games remaining to get themselves back into playoff position. That begins Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox at the Coliseum.
The A’s start with James Kaprielian on the mound. The right-hander got knocked around in his las two appearances, against the Yankees and Tigers, for a total of 10 runs in nine innings including five homers. He’ll look to sharpen up against a White Sox lineup that ranks sixth in MLB in runs per game. Chicago is missing star shortstop Tim Anderson from atop their order, on the injured list with a strained hamstring.
Meanwhile, Oakland’s lineup goes up against Jimmy Lambert, making just the sixth appearance of his MLB career and his third start. He’s never pitched more than four innings in a game in the majors, but in the minors he’s got a high strikeout rate.
