The Oakland A’s claimed a reliever off waivers on Monday, which meant they’d need to send someone else down to clear space on the 28-man roster when their new arm arrived. That follow-up move came on Tuesday.
The A’s optioned reliever Miguel Romero to Triple-A Las Vegas, the team announced.
Romero was called up two weeks ago, but he never got into a game. This was his first trip to the majors, so he’ll have to keep waiting to make his MLB debut. The 27-year-old right-hander ranked No. 26 on our Community Prospect List entering the season.
Sending down Romero makes room for new addition Michael Feliz to officially join the bullpen. The veteran righty Feliz has pitched for three teams this year in the Pirates, Reds, and Red Sox, and he was designated for assignment by Boston last week and then claimed by Oakland on Monday. His mid-90s fastball and great slider help him rack up strikeouts, but he’s also prone to homers. Click here for more info on the 28-year-old.

He spent most of his career with the Astros and Pirates before bouncing around this summer. In seven seasons, he’s struck out 30% of the batters he’s faced, or 11.8 per nine innings.
