Game Thread #149: A’s at Angels

Sweep?

MLB: MAY 28 Angels at Athletics

The Oakland A’s have won four in a row as they cling to the edges of the Wild Card race, and on Sunday they have a chance to sweep the Los Angeles Angels in their series in Anaheim.

The A’s have Frankie Montas making the start. The right-hander is the hottest pitcher in the rotation over the last few months, with 10 quality efforts in his past dozen tries, but his last appearance was a rare dud as he got knocked out in the 4th inning by the Royals. He’s faced the Angels three times this year and allowed a total of two earned runs, including two seven-inning gems in June and July.

Oakland’s lineup will go against superstar Shohei Ohtani, who was originally going to start Friday but then pushed back to today. He’s faced the A’s twice as a pitcher this year, going six quality innings both times, but Oakland ended up winning both games. In 21 starts, Ohtani has a sparkling 3.36 ERA, 3.43 FIP, and 10.6 K/9 rate.

Super-sub Josh Harrison is out of the A’s lineup, but it’s just a rest day, reports Shayna Rubin of the Mercury News.
