The Oakland A’s need a fairytale comeback story to reach the 2021 postseason, so they’re heading to Disneyland. They’ll open a series in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

*** TV broadcast on YouTube only tonight ***

Oakland has dominated the Angels this summer, going 12-4 so far with three meetings left this weekend. However, the Halos will have the chance to play spoiler, as the A’s need every win they can get right now — they stand three games back of the Second Wild Card with only 16 to play.

On the mound for the green-and-gold is Cole Irvin. The lefty went through a brief slump for three starts but looked good his last time out, tossing seven innings of two-run ball against the Rangers. He’s faced the Angels four times this year, posting a strong 3.24 ERA in 25 innings, including two quality starts in his most recent matchups in July.

Pitching for the Halos is lefty Jhonathan Diaz, making his MLB debut. The 25-year-old spent most of the year in Double-A, plus three games in Triple-A.

Meanwhile, third baseman Matt Chapman is back in the A’s lineup! He missed four games after fouling a ball off his left foot last weekend. Click here for more injury updates.
