The Oakland A’s designated two players for assignment on Saturday, to make room on the 40-man roster for their newest trade deadline acquisitions. The results of those DFA’s came in on Monday.

The Houston Astros claimed utilityman Jacob Wilson off waivers, the A’s announced.

However, Oakland later announced that reliever Domingo Acevedo cleared release waivers and was then re-signed by the team, so he stays in the organization as a non-roster player.

Both players signed with the A’s last winter as minor league free agents, both destroyed the competition at Triple-A Las Vegas, and both made their way to Oakland for an MLB debut this summer. Wilson’s first game came just shy of his 31st birthday, and while he was here he earned his first career hit in the majors and moved around to three positions on defense in limited playing time.

Meanwhile, Acevedo’s ridiculous numbers in the minors look even more impressive in the context of the powerfully hitter-friendly league environment.

  • Acevedo, AAA: 3.09 ERA, 23⅓ ip, 40 Ks, 5 BB, 2 HR, 16 hits, 2.34 FIP

The right-hander made his MLB debut in late-June with a scoreless inning against the Texas Rangers, but then he pitched twice more and allowed a homer each time before being sent back down to the minors.

  • Acevedo, MLB: 3 ip, 3 runs, 3 Ks, 0 BB, 2 HR, 5 hits

After his DFA, release, and re-signing, he now stays where he was in Las Vegas. If the A’s want to call him up to the majors again, they’ll need to make a move to add him back to the 40-man roster.

Here’s the updated 40-man roster. Players with a —hyphen are currently in the minors, and players in italics have not yet debuted in the majors.
