The Oakland A’s announced Friday that they’ve placed outfielder Seth Brown on the injured list following a positive test for COVID-19.

Going on the IL for this reason does not bring any specific time requirement. The length of Brown’s stint will be based on health factors that are not currently public. More details will follow if they become available.

Update: The rules have evolved as the year has gone on, and it turns out there is now a 10-day minimum IL stint for a positive coronavirus test. Furthermore, Brown is symptomatic, reports Shayna Rubin of the Mercury News. Contact tracing was performed and nobody else on the team was impacted, reports Matt Kawahara of the S.F. Chronicle.

To take his place on the roster, pitcher Daulton Jefferies was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The right-handed Jefferies is one of the A’s top pitching prospects. He made one start for Oakland at the beginning of August and threw five innings against the Angels, allowing three runs and earning his first MLB victory. • Jefferies: 5 ip, 3 runs, 3 Ks, 3 BB, 1 HR, 3 hits

After that game, Jefferies went back to Triple-A and made three more starts. Two of them were quality efforts and one was a bit rocky, all six innings apiece, for a total of 18 innings, eight runs, 14 strikeouts, and two walks.

Entering the season, Jefferies ranked No. 5 on our Community Prospect List, and second among pitchers, with especially high marks for his changeup and his overall control and command.

Here’s the updated roster, with the injury report below. Jefferies is listed in the Starters section for now, though no official announcement has been made about what role he will take. Update: Jefferies will most likely work in long relief, but might be an option to start, reports Kawahara.
