Each of the last three games, the Oakland A’s have taken a lead into the 8th inning but then blown the save and lost. They’ll look to snap that streak Tuesday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners.
On the mound is Cole Irvin, who has thrown a quality start more often than not lately. However, his last appearance against the Mariners was shaky, back in late July, with four runs in four innings — all the damage came in one big rally in the 3rd.
Oakland has faced Seattle starter Chris Flexen twice this year and beaten him both times. In June they scored five runs off him including a homer by Mitch Moreland, and in July they only scored two but knocked him out during the 6th inning. Moreland is batting cleanup today.
The A’s have third baseman Matt Chapman back in the lineup, after he missed Monday with a foot contusion.
