Game Thread #72: A’s at Yankees

New, 606 comments

Good morning!

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Seattle Mariners Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland A’s have the best record in the American League! At 44-27, they are ahead of the Central-leading White Sox by a half-game and the East-leading Rays by a full game. In the AL West they’re up by two over the Astros.

They’ll get another chance to add to that total on Saturday at Yankee Stadium, with a morning start time here in the Bay Area. The A’s won the series opener on Friday in New York, and now ace starter Chris Bassitt will take the hill. In 14 starts this year, he’s allowed more than two runs only four times.

The Yankees counter with Domingo German, who has made a dozen starts this year with mixed results — a strong 3.88 ERA with nearly 4 strikeouts per walk, but also a dozen homers in 65 innings. That could become a problem against a powerful Oakland lineup in a dinger-friendly ballpark.

This post was prepared Friday night before lineups had been announced, so they’ll be added ASAP.
