AL West rematch!

The Oakland A’s took two of three games from the Los Angeles Angels last weekend in their series in Anaheim, and now they’ll get four more chances against the Halos as they open a new series together at the Coliseum on Thursday.

The A’s send Chris Bassitt to the mound, which worked out quite well last Saturday against the Angels. The right-hander pitched into the 8th inning and limited them to two runs, en route to a 6-2 victory. It was the seventh time in his last eight starts that he kept the opponent to exactly two runs, leading to A’s wins all but once.

In that same game Saturday, Oakland’s lineup faced lefty Patrick Sandoval, and they’ll see him again tonight. He worked five innings last time, allowing two runs and taking the loss after being out-dueled by Bassitt. Right-hander Shohei Ohtani was originally scheduled to start on the mound tonight, but he’s been pushed back to Friday for a non-injury reason; he will play as the DH instead.

The A’s activated their own DH, Mitch Moreland, from the injured list today, but the lefty isn’t in the starting lineup against a southpaw pitcher.
