Game Thread #28: A's vs. Orioles

Can Luz pitch the lights out again?

The Oakland A’s can’t seem to beat John Means, but he won’t pitch again in this series against the Baltimore Orioles. Now the green-and-gold can face a different hurler on Saturday in the second game.

That new opponent will be Matt Harvey. The right-hander was once a Cy Young candidate with the Mets nearly a decade ago, but a series of injuries left him bouncing around the league in recent years. He even pitched a few games in the A’s minor league system in 2019. Now he’s found a new home with the Orioles, and he’s off to a nice start to the 2021 season.

Oakland counters with Jesús Luzardo, who faced Baltimore in his most recent outing. He worked into the 7th inning and finished with a quality start, albeit in a losing effort against Means.

Thee A’s are still without 1B Matt Olson, for the third game in a row, while his eye is swollen after popping himself by accident in the batting cage.
