The Oakland A’s got an unexpected off-day on Monday, but they’ll be back in action on Tuesday.
The A’s were scheduled to open a three-game series at the Coliseum against the Minnesota Twins on Monday, but the game was postponed due to COVID precautions. The Twins had multiple positive tests for coronavirus last week and needed more time to complete further testing and contact tracing.
Now the clubs have the go-ahead to begin playing. The tentative plan had been to hold a doubleheader on Tuesday to make up the missed game, and that is indeed what will happen, the A’s announced tonight.
The first game will begin at 3:30 p.m. PT, and the second game will get going half an hour after the first one finishes. Fans with Monday tickets will be automatically issued refunds, plus an extra two-for-one offer for Tuesday’s game. Fans with original Tuesday tickets can stay for both games.
Pitching matchups for the series are as follows, with a reminder that all doubleheader games this year are only seven innings apiece:
- Tue #1: Sean Manaea vs. Matt Shoemaker
- Tue #2: Jesús Luzardo vs. Jose Berrios
- Wed: Frankie Montas vs. Kenta Maeda
The Twins received a full round of negative virus tests Sunday night and were scheduled for one more Monday morning, reports insider Jon Heyman.
