Spring Game Thread #28: A’s vs. Giants

Final spring training game of 2021

Spring training is almost over! Monday brings the Cactus League finale for the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants, as well as the second of two Bay Bridge Series exhibitions being held down in Arizona.

The A’s Opening Day roster is basically set, except for the fill-in fifth starter, as Rule 5 draft pick Ka’ai Tom got the last outfield spot and righty Burch Smith completes the bullpen. Today’s game is just a tune-up at this point, with nothing left to decide among the players on the field. Sean Manaea takes the mound, but he’s already locked into the rotation.

The only remaining question is the fifth starter, and we won’t see any of those candidates today because they all just pitched recently. For more on them, Nico has the latest Eyeball Scout report on lefty A.J. Puk and righty Daulton Jefferies.

First pitch is (was) 12:05 p.m. PT. Don’t worry, I’ll get these threads up earlier when the season starts and we don’t have daily noon/1p.m. games! You can listen to the radio broadcast for free online at A’s Cast.
