The Oakland A’s haven’t won a Cactus League game in a couple days, but it’s only because they had an off-day Sunday followed by a tie on Monday.
On Tuesday they’ll turn to top prospect Daulton Jefferies. The right-hander is one of the front-runners to fill in for starter Mike Fiers if needed, while the veteran is out with hip inflammation. Jefferies has pitched four times this spring, racking up 13 strikeouts in nine excellent innings.
Jefferies will work with another player vying for a spot on the Opening Day roster, in catcher Aramis Garcia. He’s one of three catchers on the 40-man roster, along with primary starter Sean Murphy and fellow backup candidate Austin Allen.
The A’s welcome back two outfielders to their starting lineup, after brief injury absences. CF Ramon Laureano had an issue with his side, and RF Stephen Piscotty with his wrist, but both are back in action after a few games off.
First pitch is 1:05 p.m. PT. You can listen to the radio broadcast for free online at A’s Cast.
