Romo opening, but due to weather

Fernando Tatis Jr signed one of the biggest contracts in baseball history this winter, and the Oakland A’s will see him on Friday as they take on the San Diego Padres in the Cactus League.

The A’s are opening the game with reliever Sergio Romo, but not as a strategic move. Rather, there’s a storm brewin’ in the Arizona forecast, and they “want to make sure the veteran guys get their work in if the rain ends things early,” reports Melissa Lockard of The Athletic.

After Romo will come previously scheduled starter Daulton Jefferies. The top prospect is making his third appearance of the spring and has looked fantastic so far.

Oakland will see one of their former prospects, as Jorge Mateo is playing second base for the Padres. The A’s have their own notable name at 2B as well, with Jed Lowrie starting for the second day in a row and the third time this spring.

First pitch is (was) 12:05 p.m. PT. You can listen to the radio broadcast for free online at A’s Cast.
