The 2021 World Series got off to a great start on Tuesday, with the Houston Astros losing Game 1. They fell to the Atlanta Braves by a 6-2 score.
The Braves pounced for five early runs last night, including a homer by Jorge Soler to lead off the game — it was the first time a World Series has ever begun with a homer in its very first plate appearance. Atlanta’s pitching staff held on to the lead the rest of the way, even despite losing starter Charlie Morton to a fractured leg after he was hit by a comeback grounder.
The Fall Classic continues on Wednesday with Game 2, still at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Starting for the Astros is Jose Urquidy, making only his second appearance of the postseason — he was knocked around in a loss in ALCS Game 3. The Braves call on Max Fried, who made two strong outings (NLDS Game 2 and NLCS Game 1) but then got roughed up by the Dodgers in NLCS Game 5.
