Manaea / Bassitt Trade Market

Unfortunately, expensive A's Vets with 1 year left typically leave the A's via trades or as free agents. So it is that 2 of the top 5 Rotation Starters may be leaving soon. Trades are a viable way for the A's to obtain talent back before that happens. History suggests Boras Corp clients such as Sean Manaea are virtually un-signable by the low revenue A's could get additional urgency.

The teams with serious interest will be those in contention for their divisions as shown below. They will also have trading pieces to gain the A's interest. The team that adds Manaea, a playoffs regular that rarely misses his turn, will most likely have sufficient revenues to offer him a successful multi year contract. Such a team will like the advantages of adding Manaea to their rotation beyond this season.

Regarding Trade Partners with Incomplete or Weak Playoffs Rotations

- Pending offers to leaving players and other free agents will commonly include "drop dead dates" to end unsuccessful offers.
- Some teams, Rays?, may be tiring of resultant roster constraints & complications of Bullpen Games.
- Other teams may be a bit leery of possible CBA changes/rulings.
- Other teams may want to try Bullpen games to test it's fit.
- Some teams will replace leaving vets with In-house prospects pushing any new veteran acquisitions to mid-season.
- Some teams will hope their 2021 starters can increase their "Games Started" counts in 2022 delaying trade decisions until mid-season.
- A's may roll the dice on another season if they don't get "right fit" offers.

With all considerations of the above; …It favors arranging a trade for Manaea first, then possibly following up with Bassitt mid-season.

There is always the unexpected and A's may be able to extend Bassitt's contract by moving Manaea and/or another. …or they may receive a blow out offer for both starters and move on to other matters such as Chapman, another Boras Corp player but with 2 Arb years remaining.
