There’s an election coming in the United States, but perhaps we’ve seen enough of politicians for a while. Replacing them with baseball players would probably not be a good idea, but if you were going to go that route, then the Oakland A’s have quite a pair of running mates to offer.

Matt Chapman and Matt Olson are two of the best players not only on the A’s, but in the entire league. They’re the best defenders in the sport at their respective positions, and they also hit like stars — either one could win an MVP when all is said and done. But on top of their athletic ability, they’re also upstanding people.

Chapman is known as a natural leader, appearing to step into that role immediately upon his arrival in the majors as a rookie. He’s well-spoken and witty, and bold enough to say things that need to be said. He publicly sticks up for his teammates at all opportunities, and if his play on the field is any indication then he’s a highly intelligent, quick-thinking problem solver. Ask him any question about baseball and he’ll talk your ear off for as long as you’d like.

Meanwhile, Olson is exactly the kind of friendly, outgoing, good-natured person you want in a running mate, with a smile permanently on his face. We already know he has a great working relationship with Chapman, as the two link up seamlessly on split-second decisions simply by already knowing what the other is likely to do next, and they’re constantly picking each other up on the receiving ends of spectacular plays. And Olson now has the kind of clean, professional mustache that lets you know the bills will be paid on time every month like clockwork.

Maybe that’s not enough to make them viable political candidates, but they could at least be President and Vice President of Baseball. Whatever the office may be, they’ve got our vogt.
