The streak is finally over. Long live the streak.
The Oakland A’s lost on Monday, for the first time in over a week. They held a 9-4 lead over the Los Angeles Angels, but the bullpen gave up six unanswered runs and the lineup couldn’t keep up. No matter, though, as the pen has been nails so far and they were bound to give one up eventually. It also mostly wasn’t the top setup relievers doing the damage.
Now the green and gold will try to launch a new winning streak. Mike Fiers takes the mound, having gone six full innings in each of his last two starts. The A’s have won all three of his outings so far this season.
The Angels answer with Dylan Bundy. The veteran righty stymied Oakland when he faced them on opening weekend, and his last time out in Seattle on Thursday he threw a complete game four-hitter. Has he turned a corner at age 27, to make good on his pedigree as the fourth overall draft pick in 2011?
In other news, Ramon Laureano received his suspension for his role in the Astros brawl on Sunday, and he’ll have to sit out for six games. The ban would have begun tonight, but he appealed the ruling and so he will remain active until that process has resolved. He’s in the lineup for Oakland, batting second and playing center field as usual. For more details, check out our full writeup on the issue; seems like a fair decision.
