The Oakland A’s began their 2020 season by taking three out of four games from the Los Angeles Angels, but now it’s time to move on to a new opponent. The Colorado Rockies are in town for two games at the Coliseum, giving the A’s their first taste of interleague play this year.
This will already be the second AL West opponent for the Rockies, who opened their summer by taking two of three from the Texas Rangers. Colorado lost 91 games last year, but they have a solid core and enough talent to compete if everything breaks just right. For more on the Rockies, their lineup, their scheduled starting pitchers, and their roster as a whole, check out our series preview.
The A’s hand the ball to Daniel Mengden in the first game. The right-hander is filling in for Jesus Luzardo, who is still in the final stages of stretching out to join the starting rotation. It’s possible this might be Mengden’s only start, or maybe he’ll get another one, or maybe something else will go wrong with another pitcher in the meantime, but otherwise he’d end up in the bullpen, where he could help out by making multi-inning relief appearances.
For the Rockies, Antonio Senzatela takes the mound, hoping to improve on his dreadful 2019 stats. He’s got some velocity, so keep an eye on that radar to see if he can still get up to 98 mph.
First pitch is at 6:40 p.m., and the game is televised on NBCS California with audio streaming on A’s Cast.
