The 2020 MLB season is finally here! A few teams got going Thursday night, but the rest of the league, including the Oakland A’s, will celebrate Opening Day on Friday.
It’s taken four long, extra months for this campaign to get off the ground, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing social shutdown. Now the coast is clear enough to try getting back in action, with the hope that they can do so safely for a few months without creating outbreaks among teams.
The A’s enter 2020 as legitimate World Series contenders. They made the postseason the last two years but suffered early exits in the Wild Card Game both times, and this year the goal will be to qualify again and then play further into October — hopefully all the way to a ring. To that end, you can see their Opening Day roster, and the rosters of all four AL West division rivals, who account for two-thirds of the A’s 60-game schedule.
Oakland begins their season at home against one of those division foes, the Los Angeles Angels, and they’ll do so on national TV on ESPN. They’ll also be on the local NBCS California, which you can get online at fuboTV (free trials available).
Frankie Montas takes the Coliseum mound for the A’s, looking to back up his breakout performance from 2019. Andrew Heaney will go for the Angels, hoping to finally stay healthy enough to utilize his talent for a full season.
Here’s how to watch and/or listen to the game.
