Join us for 1970s World Series game threads!

Spoiler: We win every year

There’s no telling when baseball might start again, and whether there will be a 2020 season at all. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have Game Threads in the meantime.

NBCS is re-airing some old 1970s World Series games, and that’s a great opportunity for us to watch a bit of classic A’s history together. Here’s the plan:

  • On Friday 4/17 and Saturday 4/18, we’ll follow along as NBCS plays 1972 Game 2 and Game 4, respectively. I’ll put up a thread before the game, and then I’ll do a recap at the end, just like normal. Broadcasts begin at 8 p.m. PT.
  • On Tuesday 4/21, we’ll follow along as NBCS plays 1973 Game 1 (at 8 p.m. PT). However, we will then depart from the TV station, because most of that year’s games are available on YouTube. We can watch Games 2, 3, 5, and 7 online. We’ll stick with 8 p.m., unless public demand leads us to move it earlier.
  • The following week (4/28), we can do 1974. If you have DVR capability, you can record Games 1, 3, and 4 when NBCS airs them (starting next week), or if not then the whole series is up on YouTube.

Here’s a tentative schedule, which should take us through the rest of April (all Game Threads will begin at 8 p.m. PT):

  • Fri, 4/17: 1972 Game 2, on NBCS
  • Sat, 4/18: 1972 Game 4, on NBCS

  • Tue, 4/28: 1974 Game 1, on YouTube (or record it on NBCS 4/23)
  • Wed, 4/29: 1974 Game 2, on YouTube
  • Thu, 4/30: 1974 Game 3, on YouTube (or record it on NBCS 4/25)
  • Fri, 5/1: 1974 Game 4, on YouTube (or record it on NBCS 4/28)
  • Sat, 5/2: 1974 Game 5, on YouTube

If it all goes well and we’re still having fun, then we can do 1989 next.

See you all on Friday, 4/17, at 8:00 for our first thread!
