- 1980 — In a 6 - 4 loss to the White Sox, Oakland’s Brian Kingman (7-20) loses his 20th game. Kingman will finish 8-20, the last 20-game loser of the century and the first to pitch for a winning team (Oakland will finish 83-79) since Dolf Luque.
- 2016 — Jose Fernandez, 24-year-old All-Star pitcher with the Miami Marlins, dies tragically in a boating accident in Miami Beach, FL in the small hours of the morning. The scheduled game between the Marlins and Braves is canceled in mourning.
