The A’s have a chance to end their road trip on a high note with a series win on the road against the Yankees.
The team has made a bunch of changes to the big league roster today. With rosters expanding as the calendar turns to September, Franklin Barreto and Paul Blackburn have been recalled from Las Vegas. In perhaps grander news, top catching prospect Sean Murphy is joining the big league squad as well. At his peak, it is expected that Murphy will be able to be one of the better power hitting catchers the game, but regardless of whether or not his bat is ready, Murphy can make an immediate impact with his glove, which is highly heralded. Khris Davis is rejoining the team from paternity leave at DH and is batting fifth today.
And the biggest news of all, A’s ace Sean Manaea is returning from over a year on the Injured List between last season and this. The tall lefty will have a tall task in facing the Yankees in New York as his first big league action this year, but Manaea has proven again and again that he can shut down high powered offenses.
Lots to watch for today! First pitch is at 10:05. Lineups are below.
