Game Thread #132: Athletics at Royals

After a lopsided win yesterday the Athletics are ready to pile on the runs again in Kansas City.

Taking the mound for the A’s is their most dependable starter, Mike Fiers. Fiers’ last six starts have all been wins, and Fiers himself hasn’t been credited with a loss since early May. With his ERA sitting consistently at 3.46 for almost the entire month, Fiers looks like a solid bet to go late into this game.

Mike Montgomery starts for the Royals today, and since moving from the Cubs bullpen to the Royals rotation in July he hasn't had strong results. Montgomery has had two good appearances with zero earned runs, but that changed in his last start against the Orioles where he gave up five runs with three homers in 5.0 innings.

Lineups:

Lineup Notes:

  • Khris Davis went 3-6 yesterday, including hitting his 19th homer of the season, hopefully this series against the Royals will help him get back to his usual self in time for September.
  • Seth Brown is in the lineup for his second MLB game, he had his first two hits and his first RBI in last night’s game.
  • Pinder in Right and Brown in left means no Robbie Grossman in the lineup today While every starter got a hit in yesterday's rout, Robbie was the only player to not have a multi-hit game and also managed to strike out twice.

Hopefully the Athletics will be able to tee off again and take advantage of the rebuilding Royals.

Go A’s!
