The A’s are up 6-2 entering the sixth inning after taking a commanding lead in the first off of struggling opener Matt Carasiti. Matt Olson blasted a three run home run and Pinder drove in two more on a strong hit to left field before the Mariners even came to the plate. Marcus Semien hit his 14th home run of the season in the second to extend the A’s lead.
Meanwhile, Daniel Mengden has done well to keep Mariners off of the basepaths, but he has allowed some hard contact, including a long home run to Omar Narvaez. Overall, he has given up two runs, and has done well to manage his pitch count following a long couple of innings to start the game.
Time to keep things together. Pinder, Barreto, and Herrmann due up.
