Game Thread #88: Twins at Athletics

MLB: Minnesota Twins at Oakland Athletics
Jul 2, 2019; Oakland, CA, USA; Oakland Athletics catcher Chris Herrmann (5) celebrates with teammates after hitting a grand slam against the Minnesota Twins during the fourth inning at Oakland Coliseum.

Mike Fiers takes the hill tonight against the Minnesota Twins and Kyle Gibson. Blake Treinen has been activated and, according to Susan Slusser, remains the closer per Bob Melvin. Meanwhile, Liam Hendricks has been named AL pitcher of the month for his .60 ERA in 14 appearances. Chad Pinder turned his ankle in warm up today, so it’s unclear what his availability is for this evening against the Twinkies. Josh Phegley will be behind the plate tonight and let’s hope he can follow Chris Hermann’s lead whose grand slam last night pushed the Athletics to victory in his season debut. And finally, if you’ve been on vacation and missed it, Franklin Barreto has been activated and is starting this evening.
