Against all odds, the A’s have a chance of winning a road series.
Oakland A’s ace Frankie Montas will be taking the mound against Jordan Lyles to try and secure a series win. Montas had an eventful start his last time out, as an untimely error lead to six unearned runs in a frustrating A’s defeat. That error came via Jurickson Profar, the Jed Lowrie replacement who has been dealing with the yips and some sort of mental blockade at second base, which may be carrying over to his offense as well. Profar is a proven, talented, and still young ballplayer, and his performance one month into the season is reminiscent of that of Stephen Piscotty last season, who was both an offensive and defensive disaster until mid-May of last year. So there is still time for Profar to make a dramatic turnaround, but things sure have been ugly thus far for the second baseman.
Kendrys Morales is making the start at first base. His time on the A’s roster may be winding down, as Matt Olson may be set to return to the A’s roster as soon as Tuesday of next week.
First pitch is at 10:35. Lineups are below.
