Game Thread #35: Athletics vs Pirates

The Athletics have the second game of their interleague matchup against Pittsburgh today following last night’s strong win led by Josh Phegley and Brett Anderson. The Pheggosarus hit 4-for-5 with 8 RBI, and Anderson pitched 6 1-run innings, allowing only 4 hits and 2 walks.

Chris Bassitt gets his third start of 2019 for the A’s, currently sitting 1-0 on the season, with an 0.75 ERA and 4 strike outs for every walk issued. Look for Bassitt to work his breaking pitches to get Pirates out, in 2 strike counts Bassitt is just as likely to unleash his curveball as he is to throw his 95mph fastball. As the A’s are playing in an NL park, Chris also has a chance to get his first major league hit, following Brett “1.333 OPS” Anderson’s multi-hit game yesterday.

Pittsburgh sends Trevor Williams to the mound, sitting 1-1 after 6 starts with a 3.38 ERA. The righty largely throws fastballs in the low 90s, occasionally peppering in curves and sliders.

Lineup notes: Interleague play means we’re treated to Khris Davis in left field once again, Jurickson Profar stays at 2B after another multi-error game yesterday, and expect Bob Melvin to sub outfielders around late in the game with Grossman batting second and Laureano and freshly called up Skye Bolt on the bench, along with Pinder and Hundley.

Hopefully Josh Phegley will be able to keep the momentum from yesterday and throughout the season so far, as Sean Murphy is going in for surgery for a torn meniscus.

(Heads up, today’s game is broadcast on FS1, not NBCSCA. Usual radio availability)

Let’s go Oakland!
