Game Thread #52: A’s vs. Mariners

MLB: Spring Training-Oakland Athletics at Seattle Mariners Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

So a funny thing happened on the way to this Friday night game thread. Remember when I was with you last week, and the A’s were finally on a one-game win streak, after a simply horrible two-game series against the Mariners (the very same team they open the series against tonight), losing both one-run games in dramatic, painful fashion?

Well, it turned out that they would win on Friday night to run their win streak to two, and believe it or not, they haven’t lost since. There is some controversy on their current win streak; should it be six or should it be three (as listed on MLB), as technically, they haven’t yet won game #48. I mean, we all know the truth; it SHOULD BE SEVEN, but thank you very much for the suspended game last Sunday, rogue umpiring crew. Do I need to let this go? I do not! What if this is the streak and it has an asterisk? Although, I guess when the A’s finish the win on September 6th, it could be cool to add to a retroactive win streak, but really. Annoying.

I digress. The A’s are either going for four in a row tonight, seven in a row tonight, or eight in a row, depending on how you count the games, but either way, this entire week has been one big win, soaring the A’s back into a .500 record and gaining enough momentum (we can only hope) to survive another series with now-last-place Seattle. The A’s really need to figure out a way to beat Seattle and they should start now, with Daniel Mengden going for his second win of the season.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, but Khris Davis has officially been placed on the IL, and Skye Bolt has been recalled. Hope Mark Canha can keep up the awesome substitution! He’s been awesome.
