What was expected to be a pitching dual turned out to be a rough start for both starting pitchers. Fiers gave up a leadoff home run to Mitch Haniger who took it 406 feet into the left field stands. Mark Canha, returning tonight after Kendrys Morales was designated for assignment, retaliated and took Kikuchi yard to tie it up 1-1.
In the 6th, Davis hit his 11th home run of the year to bring the score to 2-1. Olson, who began batting in the 6th, had to pause with a 2-2 count when Mark Canha was caught in a run down for the third out of the 6th. This ended up being a very good thing as Olson started the 7th with his second home run of the year off of Kikuchi. And that led to Kikuchi hitting the shower. A’s 3, Mariners 1.
