The A’s will attempt to avoid a sweep in their very first road series of the year. Facing off against a very good Astros team, Mike Fiers will see if he can sustain his strong start to the season. The Astros traded for Mike Fiers, along with Carlos Gomez, back in 2015, in exchange for Josh Hader, Domingo Santana, and others, where he threw a no hitter against the Dodgers in just his third start with the organization. He has not surrendered a run in his last twelve innings pitched, and for the sake of the A’s staying over .500, ideally that streak will continue.
Going up against Fiers will be Brad Peacock, who was a member of the A’s organization during the 2012 season, having been moved alongside Tommy Milone, A.J. Cole, and Derek Norris in the Gio Gonzalez trade. Despite the 2012 A’s possessing, at one point, an all rookie starting rotation, Peacock never made the cut and spent the full season in AAA. Since joining the Astros organization, however, Peacock has come into his own, and between the bullpen and starting rotation has been one of the better strikeout pitchers in all of baseball, and in fact took Mike Fiers’ spot in the rotation in 2017 for a bit of time. Now in a defined role in the starting rotation, Peacock will try and prove that he should be a mainstay in the rotation for the long term.
Khris Davis is getting a start off for the A’s today, though he is available off of the bench if need be. Kendrys Morales will be DHing for the A’s today in lieu of Davis.
The game begins at 11:10. Lineups are posted below.
