There are a few moves I think would be beneficial to the Athletics this offseason. Let's dive right in.
1) OAK receive OF/2B Jeff McNeil, LHP Kevin Smith, NYM receive OF Mark Canha, RHP Chris Bassitt, RHRP Lou Trivino.
BTV estimates a trade value of 50 given the Athletics, and 46.7 given to the Mets. This would be beneficial for both teams, as the A's would get 5 years of McNeil, a utility man who could platoon in the OF or 2B, and a promising starting pitching prospect in Kevin Smith, who has posted a career 2.75 ERA to go along with a good 1.17 WHIP. The Mets get back some pitching needs with a possible swingman in Bassitt and the bounce back potential of Trivino. Plus, a very good Canha who can help them with a postseason run.
2) OAK receive OF Joc Pederson, LAD receive UTL Chad Pinder, RHP Daniel Mengden
According to BTV, the difference in trade value is less than 1. Joc is a great OF option who has tremendous platoon power against RHP, and getting him fills a weakness in the OF. If we get McNeil, there would be no more need for Pinder, so trading him would be the right move. Mengden is thrown in as a lottery ticket.
3) OAK signs 2B Yolmer Sanchez
Yolmer is a good, cheap option for 2nd base. The cost for 1 year would be around $2M. He has a below average OBP and generally stays slightly above .300, but as a 2nd basemen and the best in the AL in nearly every metric, he would round out an elite defensive infield. For the cost and the defense, I think this would be a great pickup.
4) OAK signs RHRP Will Harris and resigns LHRP Ryan Buchter
While a little more expensive, a 1 year deal on Harris could prove to be worth it in Oakland's shallow bullpen. Buchter's potential intrigues me, especially with his ability to get out lefties. Even with LOOGY, I expect a bounce back year from him. He could be another cheap option to sign.
