We’ve reached the final homestand of the regular season, and yes, the A’s are still playing meaningful baseball.

The team is just 1.5 games back on the Yankees for the first Wild Card spot, and the Yankees are starting a three-game series with the Major League-best Red Sox. The Angels, conversely, are 16 games back from the A’s in the AL West standings, and will start Tyler Skaggs, who is 2-5 with a 5.32 ERA against Oakland.

The lefty will be making his first appearance since going on the disabled list in early August, and has put up a 3.78 ERA in 21 starts this year.

Liam Hendriks will take the mound as the “opener” for the A’s. In his last four outings in that role, he’s allowed just two hits and zero earned runs in four innings.
