Game Thread #131: Athletics at Twins

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Minnesota Twins Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

In an attempt to give the A’s starting rotation some extra rest during their stretch of twenty consecutive games played, Chris Bassitt has been called up from Nashville to make a spot start for the team. Bassitt performed admirably in his last efforts with the big league team earlier this season, his ERA below 3.40 and inducing lots of soft contact. In the minor leagues, he has been performing more or less the same, though recently Bassitt has only given up five runs over his last four starts for the Sounds.

Going up against Bassitt is the Twins’ ace, Jose Berrios. While he was strong in his last start, Berrios was hit around in his two appearances prior to that. Berrios is more than capable of getting lots of strikeouts in any given start, but also tends to struggle mightily with his control, so if the A’s remain patient throughout his start, they could get to the bullpen early regardless of how well he pitches.

First pitch is at 11:10. Lineups are below.
