It’s always a treat to see Bartolo Colon on the mound, especially back where he resurrected he career six years ago. But unfortunately for the 45-year-old, and fortunately for the A’s, since May 21st, he’s only given up fewer than three runs twice, and has given up six or more four times.
It pains me to expect Bartolo to have a bad day, but it does seem highly likely; he was originally scheduled to start Sunday, but was pushed back a day with back stiffness. So let’s hope he has a decent outing and the A’s have an excellent one.
Mike Fiers will take the mound for the A’s having done exactly what he was brought to the club to do, and more. In two starts, he’s gone 11.1 innings, allowing only three earned runs and striking out 13.
The Rangers have been red-hot since the All-Star break, but so have the A’s. This should be a fun few games.
FYI, the Astros and the Mariners play each other at 7:10 p.m.
