I don’t put a lot of game threads up, but today is a little different from most days. You see it’s August 18th, and if the Oakland A’s win today they will be tied for 1st place. Just like we all predicted in March when we were discussing the Brett Anderson-Edwin Jackson-Trevor Cahill led starting rotation.
Speaking of Cahill, he takes the ball today matched up against LHP Dallas Keuchel, a day after the A’s used 4 of their 8 relievers to secure a dramatic, come from behind 10th inning win on Matt Olson’s lead off HR in the bottom of the 10th. Fresh are Fernando Rodney, Ryan Buchter, Jeurys Familia, and Gregorio Petit, but also available should be last night’s quintet of Lou Trivino, Shawn Kelley, Emilio Pagan, and Blake Treinen. All hands on deck as the A’s try to finally catch the team they once trailed by 12 games in the standings.
The starting lineups bring joy to my being because they include Ramon Laureano, who has already impacted games in so many ways, from his walk-off hit to his arm to his speed last night. Fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride!
