Today in Baseball History:
- 1971 - The A’s beat the Angels, 1 - 0, in the longest shutout in American League history - 20 innings. Vida Blue strikes out 17 batters in 11 innings for the A’s, while the Angels’ Billy Cowan ties a major-league record by fanning six times. Both teams combine for 43 strikeouts, a new major-league record for incompetence (or pitching dominance, depending on one’s perspective).
Best of Twitter:
- I think this pretty well sums it up...
Jed Lowrie got snubbed from his first All-Star Game by a rookie who has played 63 games in his entire MLB career and is currently on the DL. I don't care if Lowrie is named as Torres' replacement; that won't fix this. That pick is a slap in the face to the A's and their fans.

Lowrie deserved better than this. Gleyber is fantastic. But come on.

- And Brett Anderson wins again for the A’s!
A's win 6-0. They're a season-high ten games over .500 at 50-40. Four consecutive series victories

- The current system has made something of a mockery of the American League all-star process...
