The A’s have now lost their last two games against the Cleveland Indians in less than a week and no, they were not in the same series. The A’s played the Indians at home last weekend taking the first two games to win the series but losing on Sunday by the lopsided score of 15-3. They swept a mini two-game series against the Padres this week and found themselves going up against Cleveland again last night. Again the score was not quite as one-sided but it was certainly not in the A’s favor as they lost Friday night’s contest by the score of 10-4. They hope to take the next two games to win the series and the season series over the Indians and maintain their position in the American League Wild Card race. Currently the are 7.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners in that race but that number of games is not impossible to make up with approximately half of the season left to play.

Edwin Jackson takes the mound today for his third start in a green and gold uniform. He’s performed well in his first two games, putting up quality starts against the Detroit Tigers on June 25th and last Saturday, facing the same lineup he will see today. Today will be a bit different than facing the Indians’ right-hander Adam Plutko last weekend. Plutko has made six total big league starts and appeared in nine total games since making his first appearance in the majors in 2016. The A’s offense didn’t have much trouble supporting Jackson in his last outing but they may run into trouble today as Jackson will face the Indians’ veteran right-hander and two-time (and current reigning) AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. The A’s can win this game, having such a potent offense they should be able to get to Kluber but Jackson will have to keep the Indians’ first four hitters from coming up big like they did in last night’s contest.
