Today in Baseball History:
- 1941 - On a sweltering day in front of 52,832 fans at Yankee Stadium, Joe DiMaggio breaks Wee Willie Keeler’s 1897 major league record hitting streak of 45 with a three-run homer off Red Sox hurler Dick Newsome.
- 2008 - The Oakland Athletics sign Dominican amateur Michael Ynoa for a $4.25 million bonus, nearly $2 million than Wily Mo Pena’s 9-year-old record for an international amateur free agent. Ynoa will only win one game over the next four minor league seasons due to injuries and wildness.

- We were due for a day like this, I guess...
The 11 doubles allowed by the A's today are an Oakland record and the most in franchise history since at least 1908.

Feeling in Oakland clubhouse is at least a couple of those Cleveland doubles might usually go put - wind was swirling, esp on CF and kept some balls in. Somewhat tricky day to play OF but Fowler says he had two “makeable” plays on double that he didn’t get.

- Definitely some surprises here...
Look at the "runs scored in June" breakdown. Twenty-three teams crossed the plate at least 100 runs last month. The Royals, at 58 runs scored, were in last place, 29 runs behind 29th place.
