With the good half of the bullpen rested in Friday’s contest and the mop-up half cycled out, the Oakland A’s (53-42) look to even up the Bay Bridge Series against the San Francisco Giants (50-42). Tonight, former and current A’s legend Brett Anderson takes the mound against former A’s legend Jeff Samardzija.
Anderson gave up just three hits in five scoreless innings against the Indians last week, but it took him 96 pitches despite just three strikeouts. Samardzija is also on his second start after missing the month of June with a right shoulder injury.
Both clubs enter tonight’s contest with around a one-in-five chance of making it to the postseason, according to FanGraphs. The A’s are five games behind the Mariners for the second Wild Card while the Giants are three back in both the NL West and second Wild Card races.
Jed Lowrie will be on the bench, at least at the start, after injuring his leg colliding with Stephen Piscotty on defense last night. Lowrie believes he’ll be available off the bench, and expects to start tomorrow and participate in the All-Star Game on Tuesday. Chad Pinder will play second base, and Franklin Barreto is an extra bench player called up in today’s roster moves.
It’s the A’s and Giants coming up, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Pacific Time. Your lineups:
