It was a long day for both teams Friday as the A’s and White Sox split a double header with Oakland winning the first game 11-2 and the White Sox taking the second game (and putting a stop to the A’s win streak at five games) by the score of 6-4.
Today Daniel Mengden will be on the mound for the A’s looking to get back into his May form. In May, Mengden was 5-1 in six starts with a 1.15 ERA. In June he’s looked liked a different pitcher. This month Mengden is 1-2 in three starts with a 10.05 ERA. He gave up six runs to both of the teams from Texas but was a bit better in his last start against the Angels, only allowing four. It’s still a far cry from the seven total runs he allowed in the month of May.
Facing Mengden for the White Sox is Dylan Covey who is 7-7 this season with a 2.90 ERA. He struggled in his 2017 rookie season, posting an ERA of 7.71 in 12 starts and six relief appearances. It should be interesting to see which version of both pitchers we will see today.
Hopefully (as they noted on above Twitter), the A’s can launch a few more balls out of the yard today and get the win. Let’s Go Oakland!
