Last night’s performance from the team as a whole was pretty incredible. We wanted our offense back? Well, we got it. Let’s just hope it doesn’t mean we used up all of our runs for this series in one night! The defense made three double plays and not a single error was recorded. Frankie Montas allowed just seven hits in his eight innings of work and combined with Emilio Pagan to shutout the Royals. The A’s 16-0 win over the Royals tied the largest margin of victory in a shutout in franchise history, which is incredible considering how long the A’s have been around.
Today Trevor Cahill, who posted a 1.73 ERA during the month of May, will take the mound for the A’s against one of his former teams. He spent a short stint with the Royals last season and struggled. Similarly, Former short-term Athletic Jason Hammel will be on the mound for Kansas City. (I won’t even get into the season Hammel was a part of the A’s for. It’s one that I’m sure none of us want to think about right now — or — ever!)
And here are today’s lineups:
