Technically, the possibility that the A’s go 17-2 against the Mariners and ride that dominance all the way to the postseason, like the team did in 2006, is still in play, even if the previous two games versus Seattle actually did happen.
Today is the final game of the A’s eight-game road trip, and the team looks to salvage at least one game of the three game set against the division-rival Mariners. In order to do so, the A’s will have to go through Felix Hernandez, longtime nemesis of the team. However, with Hernandez struggling in the early going and an on-fire Sean Manaea taking the hill for Oakland, the A’s chances of victory today are as good as they’ve ever been against the ace.
