What a beautiful evening for some interleague baseball! The A’s travel up the 101 Fwy, exit Echo Park Ave, wind past Sunset and Vin Scully Dr. and enter into Chavez Ravine to play the second game of the 2 game series. On the hill for the A’s is righthander, Daniel Mengden (0-2, 6.55 ERA) and opposing him for the Dodgers is lefthander, Alex Wood (0-1, 1.93 ERA).
Mengden and Wood have very similar backgrounds. Both played at the alma maters of their Dad’s (Mengden -Texas A & M; Wood - Georgia). Both had serious injuries in college (Mengden - Back; Wood - TJ Surgery). Both were drafted by their favorite childhood teams (Mengden - Astros; Wood - Braves) and both were traded from those teams to their current posts.
Wood’s has more experience (and more success) in the big leagues, being named to the N.L, All-Star team last season. But Mengden has the edge in the hitting competition, batting a cool .500 last season. Okay it was only in 2 plate appearances, but a hit is a hit and A’s Nation knows the boys in Green and Gold could sure use some hits tonight after being shutout yesterday and almost no-hit on Sunday.
Here is tonight’s line-up (1st pitch is at 7:10pm pst):
I have a good feeling about tonight’s contest....A’s bats are due!!
Let’s win one for Eck!!!
