September 6th also happens to be a very historic day in baseball history.

ICYMI:

Today in Baseball History:

  • 1913 - Athletics second baseman Eddie Collins steals home twice in victory over Red Sox.
  • 1970 - Blue Moon Odom allows just two hits and adds a homerun as the A’s beat the Royals 7-1. Side note: what happened to decent baseball nicknames?
  • 1995 - Cal Ripkin plays in his 2,131st consecutive game, surpassing Lou Gehrig’s record. Ripkin receives a standing ovation for more than five minutes.
  • 2002 - The A’s 20-game win streak is snapped as the Green and Gold are blanked by the Twins.

Best of Twitter:

  • That team won 94 games...
  • A streak on the other side...
  • A reality many of you know too well...
  • This Robbie Grossman shot landed in the touch tank...
