Today in Baseball History:
- 1909 - Ty Cobb hits his ninth homer and clinches the American League homerun title. All nine were of the inside-the-park variety. Indeed, he is the only 20th century player to lead the league in homeruns without hitting one over the fence.
- 1936 - At 17, Bob Feller throws a two-hitter and strikes out 17 Philadelphia A’s.
- 1983 - Rickey Henderson steals three bases, running his total to 101. It’s his third season with 100 or more.
- 1991 - In the ‘you think we have stadium problems’ segment, a 55-ton block collapses in Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. The Expos are forced to play the remainder of their games on the road.
