Happy Friday, and happy holiday weekend! I’m greeting you from Las Vegas, Nevada, where I’m celebrating my 7th anniversary by bringing you this A’s/Seattle game thread, likely from a sportsbook, where I can drink with friends instead of alone with my TV. Things are coming up baseballgirl for sure this holiday weekend.
Not to fret; I certainly saw the A’s in person this week, as we drove down to Anaheim to catch maybe the worst MLB games in history? I’m sure there’s steep competition, but none of those games were any good, as evidenced by the resulting sweep. The A’s have called up the September 1st crew, and we can only hope that things look up for the A’s as they try to sink Seattle’s playoff hopes once and for all this weekend. Seattle is clinging to hope; they are 4.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot, so it’s not likely, yet mathematically possible.
Tonight’s game features Sean Manaea vs. Mike Leake, who was recently acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals. My sportsbook (I’m not kidding!) tells me the Mariners are -140. I think that means I’ll be writing a losing recap. But what happens if I bet on Seattle? Asking for a friend.
