Who is your least-hated AL West rival? Mine would have to be the Mariners. A’s vs. Mariners series are rarely particularly exciting (spoiling last year to end their season aside), but it always feels like we’re pretty evenly matched. Felix is out for 3-4 weeks with an injury so that removes one of the main hurdles. And hey, Seattle is a cool city.

Kendall Graveman is making his second start since returning from the DL. Out from mid-May until last week, the sinker baller is looking to regain his old form. His first start back was about as inauspicious as they come, with Graveman getting knocked around to the tune of 7 earned runs in only 2 innings. At least there’s nowhere to go but up? (and of course now he’ll give up 8 runs in 1 inning)

Lefty Ariel Miranda is taking the mound for Seattle - their only pitcher not yet touched by the injury bug this season. He has, however, been hit by the “can’t pitch his way out of a paper bag” bug recently (the same one that afflicted Graveman), sporting an ERA over 6 in his last handful of starts.

So it’s a battle of two pitchers looking to right the ship. The Mariners are on the cusp of Wild Card contention and are all-in with Alonso. Will the A’s play spoiler yet again? Will Yonder Alonso immediately strike back with the curse of the ex-A’s?
