- 1948 - After 20 years of pitching in the Negro Leagues, Satchell Paige makes his first MLB start for Cleveland, leading the Indians to a 5-3 victory over the Washington Senators.
- 1959 - The AL defeated the NL 5-3 at the Los Angeles Coliseum in the second all-star game of the season. 1959 was the first year baseball played two all-star games, a tradition that would last through 1962.
